| 5. Ensure that the puppet is looking at the
person with whom it is speaking (this is often the first mistake, the audience
is only looking into a big mouth. Practise in front of a mirror). The audience
will then look the puppet in the eyes, whereby the aesthetic of the kumquats
helps. It is not so important whether you move the mouth to synchronise with
the speech. The puppet will hold the audience under its spell. |

|
| 6. Hold the puppet away from your body, this
allows it to be perceived as an individual. For example, a puppet which turns
itself to look at someone causes much amazement. |
|
 |
|
| 7. If you let the puppet stand (on a table,
for example) or sit on your lap it has a much better effect than when it is
just hanging from your hand; it is also easier to work the mouth. |
|
| 8. The puppet is the focus of attention.
Naturally, you must also look at your audience in order to respond to any
reactions, but if you allow your eyes to rest on the head of the puppet as much
as possible you will automatically draw the attention to it. |
